GENERAL
I'm almost NEVER a fan of airport hotels. The thought of a place where you for one reason or another HAD to sleep in just doesn't seem appealing to me at all. Nevertheless, I found Novotel Bangkok Airport a pleasant surprise. Not only is it a nice place to find a good bed, but the quality in all aspects is just as good - if not better - than those great hotels in the city of Bangkok.
PRO
Overall Ambience and Amenities - This hotel tries very hard to make you feel that you are NOT in anywhere near an airport. The atrium inside is spectacular, cafes and restaurants are casually decorated, plus the swimming pool likes more like a resort.
Nice and New Room - Just like most new hotels, the bathrooms have windows that see through to bedroom and all the facilities are pretty top notch.

Service and Overall Quality - Novotels are not known for exceptional quality, thanks to the small (an understatement) element of romantic freedom in its French root; however, this one is an exception, maybe it's just the Thai hospitaliity? BTW the welcome chocolates and marzipans in the room was a good touch, one that almost tips this hotel over to 5-star caliber in terms of service.
Great Breakfast!! - We bougth the business package which includes stuff like internet access and club lounge privilege,
which includes breakfast in the business lounge. While selections are smaller, food quality is excellent and service is spectacular, efficient yet friendly. DO NOT miss the pastries, especially the croissants! They're so good I had three of them - Just like back in Paris!!
CON
Location - Well, it's near the airport, but not really. It's a big too detached for walking yet it is right next to it. There's NOTHING around the airport or the hotel that you can do besides watching planes take off and land.
Noise and Perception of Crowdedness - I don't know whether it's the guests or structural design, it just seems noisy and crowded everywhere you go - especially given that we were there Sunday morning! Maybe it's that open atrium that makes you see people everywhere because there's nowhere to hide....
OVERALL
If you are in Bangkok and need to crash near the airport, I HIGHLY recommend this hotel! The airport is a bit far from the city especially given the grinding traffic they've got just about any time except 2am-5am, having a great airport really give you a lot of flexibility. Don't forget to have lots of croissants at breakfast and enjoy the pool!
Family-Friendliness Rating:

(out of 5) Pro - Nice pool although no kiddy pool; generally kid-friendly staff; big atrium to run around indoor
Con - Nothing to do around the hotel; very little to do inside; didn't notice kid TV channels
