GENERAL

This is one of those great hidden treasures in LA - I never understand why people don't stay in the LAX area when they visit.  It's centrally located with good freeway access, the roads around don't get too congested (unlike 10, 101 or 5), and hotels are decent and reasonably priced.  While I won't give it 4 smileys, it does deserve 3.5, and at the price I paid it was like a STEAL.

PRO

The Sheraton Gateway, while not as good as Westin LAX, is very nice and comfortable.  Both the public area and room are spacious enough for little ones to run around a bit.  The staff is helpful even though not overly friendly (man, what would you expect - it's LA!!).

For those who likes a contemporary hotel experience, the decorations can be very appealing.  It's a classic Southern Cal cool - one that is definite hard to imagine from the outside (a standard Sheraton look).

CON

The biggest downside of this hotel is the parking situation.  You are stuck with either paying $20 for valet, or $12 for self-park that is a good 5-min walk to a public lot.  The worst part is that when I stayed there, it took a lot of time and luck for me to even find a space in that lot.

Parts of the hotel also need some remodeling work, like the doors and bathrooms.  Talking about thin doors - I was kept awake by my next door neighbor till 2am because they were talking super loud (two couples having a good time - can't blame them....), and I could even see the light from their room under the connecting door!

The bathroom is a bit old but working quite well.  Replacing the faucet and drain would probably do the job.

OVERALL

Overall, I was satisfied with the hotel and the stay - especially at the discounted price.  Definitely a great value and a good night of sleep - If you don't get a neighbor that parties all night....
