GENERAL
This is the first hotel that was built in the Makati CBD and it's showing its age. It's gone through a complete renovation so many parts of it are nice and shiny. It's a comfortable hotel at a great location, but it's got some management issues to deal with.
PRO
Best Location in Makati CBD - There's no hotel with a better location than Intercon (as
Filipinos intimately call it). It's right next to Glorietta and within comfortable distance from Greenbelt, and it's very close to EDSA and Ayala. For shopping, eating and getting in and out, this is the place to be.
Nice and Renovated Room - Room looks good, with new furniture and fully renovated bathroom. Too bad they are a bit small, but overall comfortable. Great Filipino Service - There are very few hotels in the Philippines that have really bad service, but this Interco is exceptionally good. The staff doesn't have the Pen or Shang snobbishness, but they definitely try their best to impress the guests. I actually left something in the room, but incredibly, after 3 months, they kept the items with my name tagged on it! Now that is excellent service.
CON
Age Showing Everywhere - The rooms are renovated and comfortable, but all around the hotel AGE is showing everywhere. There's really nothing they can do about their pool, for example - just looks like a 40 years old pool.
Serious Quality Issues with Amenities - I can show you picture after picture of nasty mistakes they've made - really, really cheap and ugly shower curtains, plastic garbage cans in real bad colors, etc. The Suriya Spa inside has a room with a used mattress standing upright by the wall. Pretty incredible for a supposedly 4-star hotel.
OVERALL
For hotels in Makati, it's in general hard to justify their rates. There's simply a supply-demand problem, so all nice hotels charge $200-$300 rates. However, if I pay $200 to stay at Intercon, I would have killed myself. They give you a nice room and sleep in, but that's about it, so overall it's simply a bad value, but still a comfortable place to sleep and very, very convenienty to do everything away from the hotel.
Family-Friendliness Rating:

(out of 5) Pro - Near a huge mall that has a lot of do for kids, easy to get in and out in terms of location
Con - There is a pool but it's definitely not for kids; nothing else in the hotel designed for kids
