Hilton Los Cabos Resort Last Stayed On: Jan 2005 Constructed 2002Published Internet Rate: $199 / Hotwire Rate: $100 Orbitz Rating: 4 Stars / MC Rating:
GENERAL When we visited back in 2005, this hotel was almost brand new. The place didn't look like much till after you check in and 24 hours later, I was sold. This is by far the nicest Hilton I've stayed in and a wonderful place to base your Los Cabos adventure or relaxation time at. Gorgeous Rooms - I don't know about all the rooms, but our room has a hot tub with an inside window that opens towards the balcony, which means you could be showing while looking at the ocean! The whole resort design and layout just made a lot of sense, and rooms in particular reflect attention to details that make the guests feel comfortable. Great Facilities - The infinity pool and the cabanas around it were great - everything was laid out with an ocean view and it had lots of space for wandering around. We didn't try the restaurants but we heard great things about them too - at least they look real fantastic, with lots of (again) great view and openness to nice sea breeze. CON Hard-to-reach Beach - The first thing you'd notice outside your balcony is that the beach is empty. Almost no guest ever visits the beach, I think primarily because 1) it's a LOOOONG walk down the beach and I can't imagine walking up after playing down there and 2) there are a couple "danger - current" signs around the beach and according to my dad, the sand had funny patterns that indicate riptide. Well, you can always check out Medano or other beaches that are safe for wading so this is not a fatal problem. Lack of Attention to Detals - The construction wasn't done as nicely as it can be, as cracks in the walls and around the toilets are pretty visible. Also, the staff wasn't real attentive and they try pack too many lounge chairs around to pool, making it actually kind of dangerous to walk around (risk of stepping on little kids!). There are much room for improvement in all areas of service but overall they were very good. OVERALL This place could have been an Orbitz five-star if 1) it's not a hilton, 2) it has large convention facilities and 3) a litte more attention to details. It's really that good. Considering what we paid for, this hotel was a STEAL. I would probably pay $200 a night and still think I got a good deal here. Los Cabos is not a party or sports town like Acapulco or Puerto Vallarta, but it has a bit of everything, and Hilton makes a nice place to relax if you don't want to go outside of the resort. Family-Friendliness Rating: Pro - Spacious rooms, big beds, plenty of space to run around, staff welcomes kids Con - No kiddy pool, tough for kids to access beach, some resort design details not child proof (like in most places outside of US), atmosphere definitely oriented towards vacationing or convening businesspeople
