Bad Dining Experiences in Southland Since I have family down in Southern California - LA and Orange County, you'll see more and more reviews on my great dining experiences. We also travel to San Diego every year so you'll see some San Diego reviews. Southern Cal offers a great variety of quality restaurants at the lower price - but it is also filled with lousy subpar tourist traps. I'll be blogging some of my worst experiences so that you can avoid them. Always check out my reviews for high quality dining choices - Again I only review GOOD restaurants so you'll never go wrong following my recommendations! Gaucho Grill [Santa Monica and Other Locations] - I've heard a lot of good things about this place and I finally got to try it May 07. Oh wow, it was a HUGE disappointment. My dining partner has a steak that was basically cold. The vegetables that came with the dinner taste like they were cooked a week ago. My steak was lukewarm too and the fries that came with it was so tough that I couldn't even finish half. I so gave up on the restaurant that I didn't try the dessert. It once again proved that nothing good is ever found on a touristy street. Versailles Cuban [Culver City and Many Locations] - We tried the Versailles in Miami and it was great - but LA is not Miami and this is not that Versailles. Ouch, everything tastes microwaved and "well-aged" (no I'm not talking about steak). It'd be ok if this is a street stand in the flea market but it's not. I expect more than greasy platanos and dried beef stew when I sit down at a (supposedly) renowned (thanks to those &^%#@ review sites) restaurant.
