GENERAL
So who said location is everything in real estate again? If you ever stayed in Ascott Makati, you'd understand why is location such an important thing. If this serviced apartment is located anywhere, it's just another serviced apartment and I probably won't even bother writing a review for it, but because it's in such an amazingly convenient location, and it is afterall a well-designed and recently-renovated luxury hotel, it's worth checking out.
PRO
Location - On top of a huge span of shopping arcades and restaurants, walking distance to the most prestigious business district in the country, even near the MRT IF you are actually going to use, it's an extremely convenient place to stay for one night or one month. Oh, did I mention access to about 100 restaurants within 15 min walk?
Room Comfort - Thanks to the recently completed renovation, the rooms are really comfortable. The furnitures are real new and nice, beds are comfortable, kitchen and bathroom are modern, TV is big and flat, and even the A/C is powerful.
Full-Size Kitchen - Not all serviced apartments have full-size kitchens. Ascott has the best I've seen looks just like house kitchens with plenty of utensils and diningware.
CON
Noise and Privacy - The downsize of a super convenient location is a place where you'd be seen by hundred of people on your way from the car to the lobby. During the day, till closing of the mall, the hotel is on the way to one of the main hotel entrances, so you can forget about subtly enter your home-away-from-home.
Odor - For some strange reason, everyday in the room welcomes us with a bad odor, like the smell of seafood cooking mixed with garbage. We suspected it was from the restaurants below the hotel, but the room was at the 20th floor! A/C solves the problem though - we just need to keep it running all the time.
Amenities - From lobby to breakfast to swimming pool, the amenities are just very ordinary. They are nice, but definitely not five-star nice. The only reason I gave it four is that it does have everything you can imagine, including sports clubs and kids activities for long-term stay guests.
OVERALL
If you mind paying a premium for the location, and you can tolerate the bad odor, I am very sure you will have a pleasant stay in Ascott Makati. It's very convenient for anyone with any need, and the rooms are highly enjoyable. Don't expect to receive five-star treatment though, because this is not meant to imitate the service and amenities you'd enjoy in Shangri-La or Peninsula.
Family-Friendliness Rating:

(out of 5) Pro - It has lots of space for kids, kitchen and living rooms make your stay convenient and comfortable, both hotel and mall have lots of things kids can do.
Con - The pool is not very kid-friendly, but it's not too bad either.
